Villa Restoration, Mt Eden

RHM Construction completed this Villa restoration to return it to its former glory.

Our client, Sathya Sai Service Organisation, had very specific needs for this Villa restoration including a wheelchair ramp and disabled toilet (which was a first for us).

This Mt. Eden Villa got a complete renovation. Our challenge was to keep the original character of the 1920s property, while giving it some more modern touches.

We turned the old triple garage into a big open plan library with new linings, down lights and carpet. Of course we also added a heat pump and full insulation to keep the librarians warm during winter.

The old deck was in a rough state with rotting piles and boards. Once the piles were replaced and the old boards pulled up we extended it to create more outdoor space. The second deck at the back of the property also got an extension and wheel chair access.

Inside, RHM Construction gave the villa a brand-new modern-looking kitchen, two stylish bathrooms, a full re-wire, new linings, paint and plaster. We needed to open up two rooms so we knocked down the non-loadbearing wall and replaced it with sliding doors to have the option of one room or two. We had the original Kauri moldings sanded and varnished to bring them back to life. To top it off we ripped out the old carpet and had the Kauri floorboards sanded and oiled to give it a stunning finish.

Although not without its challenges, this project was incredible to work on. We took massive pride and satisfaction in restoring this Auckland Villa.
